Will The Economic Stimulus Package Boost Heavy Equipment Sales?

While work continues on the new economic stimulus package in Washington D.C., equipment manufacturers are hoping for benefits from possible new spending on infrastructure.

The Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, reports on what the stimulus plan could mean for the local Terex Corporation and other heavy equipment manufacturers.

According to the story, Terex anticipates that new construction on roads and bridges will boost orders for the company’s cement mixers and heavy trucks.

One Terex manager says their customers have reduced spending due to the economic slowdown, but new spending for construction projects could offer an incentive to buy new equipment.

The story also quotes The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s estimate that for every $5 billion invested in infrastructure, 1 million yards of concrete is placed and 150,000 jobs are created.
