As the controversy over a pilot program to give Mexican trucks access to American roads heats up, Land Line is reporting that CANACAR, trade association representing Mexican motor carriers, wants to cancel the program.
A CANACAR representative said that the U.S. government is not complying with agreements in NAFTA treaty and Mexican truckers would face “uneven regulation”.
Another issue is whether the plan to open the border would have any advantages for Mexico. The president of CANACAR expressed doubts that opening the border would accelerate trade and could cause transportation prices in Mexico to increase.
