Do Truckers Buckle Up on the Road?

A recent article in The Hill highlights how 1 in 6 truck drivers does not wear a seat belt. At 83% self-reported seat-belt use, truckers are doing a whole lot better than in previous decades, such as the 1990s when seatbelt use was closer to 20%.

Hopefully, you are one of the vast majority of truckers buckling up and potentially saving your own life.

While the numbers look good, it would be even better to get to 100% seat-belt use. According to the CDC, buckling up reduces serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about half, saving almost 14,000 lives in 2015 alone.

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation has a handy myth-busting seat-belt guide for truck drivers that really shatters any argument against buckling up. We strongly recommend you take a look!!

And finally, wearing a seat-belt is – as you already know – the law. So if only for the simple reason of avoiding a ticket, you should buckle up on the road!!

We hope we didn’t sound too much like your mother with all that!! But frankly, just like dear old Mom, we care about y’all and hope you can stay safe and continue the great American tradition of truck driving!!

Tell us what you think!! Do you wear your seat-belt?? Why or why not?? Let us know in the comments below!!
