College class teaches heavy equipment repair

Powerful heavy equipment is useless if there is no around to fix it. As use of heavy equipment expands, so will the need for heavy equipment technicians.

Rend Lake College in Illinois is getting the next generation of repair techs ready to tackle the challenges of fixing big machines, offering a class in heavy equipment technology.

TheSouthern.com features a story on the class and instructor Joe Kloepper, a navy mechanic with over 20 years of heavy equipment repair experience.

With equipment ranging from dump trucks to hydraulic excavators, students are getting hands on experience in how to overhaul diesel engines, the proper use of repair tools, and the use of machinery such as hydraulic presses.
