Diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. has an unlikely friend who has boosted their business: The EPA.
The New York Times reports on how Cummins learned to adapt to new and demanding diesel engine emission regulations. Cleaner diesel engines have a wider market in pickup trucks and sports utility vehicles. The business increase has Cummins expanding their manufacturing and hiring more workers. Even Cummins’s competitor, Caterpillar, has seen an improvement in their business due to new clean diesel technology.
Some analysts believe that the increased sales of diesel engines might be short lived, but for now, clean engines are generating big sales.
